Porcelain VeneersRegular visits to our office are an important part of keeping your teeth healthy. Sometimes, however, you might end up with teeth that don’t look quite how you’d like them to—and this is true even if you care for them properly and see us often. This can happen as a result of injury or infection. In fact, some people simply don’t like the shape of their natural teeth and would like to change their appearance. Whatever the exact reason is, porcelain veneers are a great option for the patient who is looking to protect their teeth while also enhancing their smile. What are porcelain veneers?Dental veneers are dental tools that work to protect your teeth while also serving to transform them. Consider tennis shoes or boots, for example, and how they protect your feet. We wear these kinds of things to keep our feet safe while also enjoying the ability to match them with different outfits. A porcelain veneer, then, works similarly for a tooth with the exception of being removable—veneers are fixed in place. Once they’re on, they are on permanently. To put it more simply, dental veneers are like “crowns” or “caps” for your teeth that are constructed out of porcelain. They are molded to fit your teeth specifically, and then are bonded into place on your teeth. It is important to note that dental veneers can do a lot to change your appearance. They can alter the color, shape, width, and even length of your tooth in order to best enhance your smile. This is why so many people opt for dental veneers to achieve that uniform, healthy smile that so many covet. How long does it take to place dental veneers?Dental veneers must be placed over the course of several visits to our office. This is because we must first take molds of your teeth that will be used to create a porcelain veneer that fits perfectly. Once the molds have been taken, the surface of your teeth will need to be prepared for the placement of the veneers, and the molds of your teeth will be sent to the laboratory where the veneers are created. You should be able to come back into the office a week or two later to have the veneers placed. We will take our time in ensuring that the veneers fit properly before bonding them into place. How long do porcelain veneers last?If you take care of your veneers properly, they can last for decades. It is important that you do your best to keep them clean, however, and brush and floss them daily. You should also visit us regularly in order to catch any potential issues as quickly as possible so that they can be fixed before affecting the overall health of your veneers as well as your mouth in general.
